Our Research

Our research aims to synthesise and characterise atomically precise low-dimensional nanomaterials with tailored electronic, optoelectronic, magnetic and chemical properties. We rely on supramolecular self-assembly and metal-organic coordination on surfaces for the design of functional nanomaterials from the bottom up. We characterise the atomic-scale structural, electrocnic and optoelectronic properties of these materials via low-temperature scanning probe microscopy (STM, STS, ncAFM), synchrotron-based x-ray techniques and time-resolved optical spectroscopies. Our experiments are supported by theoretical models based on quantum mechanics.
